Life drawing speed paint 2

Sat in on the life drawing class for textiles and decided to add a bit of colour in Photoshop to the sketch I did.  Nice change having a scene instead of just one figure.

Life drawing speed paint

Quick paintover in photoshop of a sketch from life drawing this year.  Not a total success, but a good exercise.

Just got a new painting program today (SAI), so doodled out a face to practise on and learn the ropes.  The effects are still a little unpredictable while I get my head round the settings for the various brushes, but it's a very fun process.

Speed painting!

Working on speeding up my paintings, with some quick sketches in photoshop, just working from reference photos at the moment.  This one took about an hour to an hour and a half.

Edits and experiments.

I decided to take a recent portrait I had done, (see further down the page) and really try and get more out of it. Pushing myself to use way more colour to describe skin tones, and stronger contrasts. I wanted to give this one a more painterly style that was consistent throughout the image. Any feedback on this work would be greatly appreciated, good or bad!

First of the completed portrait commissions.  They have kindly allowed me to show this in my portfolio, artwork belongs to them :)

Lara Crochet, Granny Spy

Final 40 second group animation of the Spy Granny for a 2nd year project in Animation at Dundee University. 2D pencil and paper animation, shot with flipbook.

First 10 secs: Keyframes by me, inbetweens by Carlo.
Second 10 secs: Keyframes by Carlo, inbetweens by me.
Third 10 secs: Keyframes by Hamid, inbetweens by Anna.
Final 10 secs: Keyframes by Anna, inbetweens by Hamid.

Unfortunately the version with sound hates me, and will only play with Quicktime, so when I attempt to upload it anywhere, its just a black screen with sound.  As it was Hamid who did this bit, I don't have the wherewithall to make changes to it, so silent movie it is!

Cherry blossom garden

I am currently experimenting with a few different styles for possible use in games or future animations. This image was inspired by a photo shoot of babytarragon by the very talented UK based, student photographer, Dale Richards. Go check out his stuff! A detailed portrait painting of the same model is also underway and will find its way here soon!  Thanks to both model and photographer for the use of their images :)

Murloc painting

Spy granny rough keys

Timing not quite right on this yet, gonna need to cut some actions out of this to fit the 10 second limit while slowing down parts of it.  Ah well, almost there!

Also, here is the character walk from semester 1:
